WFH Dreams vs Reality: Working From Home in Lockdown

P.S. The photo above is a screenshot of a facebook post of a dear friend! I found it hilarious and needed to share it with my world so here goes!

It is not lost on me on how lucky I am to be able to work from home and get a regular paycheck. I have been hearing of heart-wrenching stories where folks are losing their jobs at this time and have to deal with a double or a tripple whammy of grappling with the disease along with loss of job and insurance. I am one of the lucky ones to be able to stay close to family, have pantry full of food and people that I can crib to whenever I feel a little imbalance in my physical or mental well-being.

That said, over the past few days, I have been pondering on this question and wanted to ask it to the world…

How many of you in the past have been guilty of saying this? If I get to work from home, ill save so much commute time that I will…

  • Clean my wardrobe
  • Start exercising more
  • Follow x,y, z hobby
  • Spend more time with family
  • Do more of this or that
  • ……

I have been guilty of daydreaming of being able to achieve a lot more being at home than going to work and then in the past few weeks/months when I have been forced to work from home, I have basically done zilch. Today I decided to rack my brain and think why and I kept coming back to the same answer….I think its laziness and procrastination.

Having worked from home, what I feel like doing in the few precious hours/mins I get is to sit in peace and do nothing. Just hearing the chirping of birds and trying to get my brain to be still takes away all my free time. If there is any left, mundane home chores stake claim to those too.

Covid-19 has for me raised a question on the priorities we have as human beings. Aside from the well being of my loved ones, I am craving basic independence of being able to go wherever I want whenever I want or to be able to in dependently decide for me how I want to live and function which at this point has been decided for most of us.

I really hope that very soon, this time becomes a distant memory that we can think of how we came together as a society and stayed away to come closer as human beings v.s. having to check the death tally every morning and take a minute for our fallen fellows.

For all the ones we lost, see you on the other side. We miss you.

Till later!
