Panic in the Time of COVID: Packing Up My US Life Overnight

The last few days have been part interesting and challenging for me. Ive had to pack up my life in the US and come back to India for good as the country was ready to close its borders to prevent the pandemic from spreading. The list of tasks including moving a full house, booking a last minute ticket, getting on the plane and then spending the 12 hours that I did in the immigration queue to end up getting home quarantined for 14 days.

Today is day 6 of my #selfquarantine. I think I might lose my shit today.. Anxiety is creeping up and despite the best efforts of people around me, I am kind of understanding how the caste system would have made people feel. Even though its in the best interest of people around me, the light flinching of the hand as I open my door or just politely asking me if I am feeling well I think half expecting that I might share that I feel feverish makes me cringe. I know they mean well but what do you tell a brain that is being fed only COVID related information for the last few months.

Our country is in a lockdown and only essential services are working. We are all dreaming of a time when things will come back to normalcy. We will be able to get up and go to work, the gym, the parks, restaurants. We will be able to take holidays and spend time with family… and when we sneeze, people around us will bless us v.s. running away.

Till later.
